This time too, we're late for that sign, but that was the plan. The managers, a lovely couple, kindly agreed to work overtime to give us the opportunity to play their hall.
So we arrive in front of the big sign of Escape Game Katwijk in a kind of industrial area (well it was dark, I may be wrong), in a building with offices, anyway there are parking spaces and that's cool.
We go up the stairs and a young woman welcomes us with a smile. In front of the entrance of the building, a model gives us a glimpse of what is waiting for us: he is dressed like the burglars of the Spanish series "La casa de Papel" with an orange/red outfit and a Dali mask.
La casa de Papel is a series about a burglary like we have never seen before in the history of burglaries. It's true that the name "Bella Ciao" didn't make us think of this series at first, but in the end it's a fan song that will be sung several times during the seasons, so why not?
So, even if it's not the only venue on this theme, for us, it's the first time we play this theme. And in any case, the majority of escapist themes are not very innovative, it all depends on what we do with them, right?
But first of all, we exchange a little with the manageress, in a very modern kind of lounge, but still warm and comfortable, around a glass of water or a soft drink. I admit that our day has been long and that we are quite tired. It's always an additional difficulty for the last room of the day to wake us up, it must be really good, even excellent.
For the briefing we will have the pleasure to watch a small video, which is as for many Dutch brands of excellent quality. Then a small surprise awaits us to plunge us into the subject, before we discover surprised the first space.
This is a kind of hideout that fans of the series will recognize very quickly. Besides, all that we will meet here as enigmas, as decoration, as narrative framework is completely coherent and faithful to the first season of the series.
... takes place after the series, but the thread is easily identifiable for fans and even people who don't know the series will find it useful. It feels like revisiting the adventure of the "professor", Tokyo, Nairobi and all the others. There is a real evolution of the narration as the enigmas and the rooms go by.
The story reveals itself to us
... are of a very correct size, never the 4 players that we are, never stepped on each other's feet. The decoration of the room is incredible in its realism, the quality of the materials used and in its ability to evoke places in the series.
...are in the subject matter, fun to play, linear, but not really. The beginning was a bit difficult, but as it gets more intuitive and clearer. The links with the show make you smile, but if you don't know the show it's not a problem. We find quite well the cooperative aspect of a burglary and even the decision making under stress which is a crucial skill for our new professional vocation. A few puzzles even surprised us. In any case, we appreciated the riddles, as well as the interesting dig, which was large enough to make us discover the place, but not so large as to put us in trouble.
For the clues
... there were screens in the different spaces and I must admit I regret that choice. It is of course simple and effective, but does not fit in with the decor at all. Our DOJ knew at all times where we were at and knew how to manage our progress perfectly.
...is one of the many strengths of this room. The light and sound effects are harmonious and underline our progress, they know how to enhance this room and allow an even more unconscious and engaging immersion. All this in a decor whose quality I can only emphasize once again.
If you are a fan or not of the "Casa de Papel" series and you like escapes, don't hesitate to go and play this perfectly balanced and even playful room which will take you through the key moments of the series. If only to meet the 2 adorable creators!
After this training, we are ready for the real burglary.
