Mission : Crime scene: Back alley

Crime scene: Back alley
The story

That was close ! However, the operator is satisfied with what you've done and your next mission is waiting for you:

You were introduced in a crime scene unit and have to find evidence about a murder case. Who is the victim? Where is the murder weapon? And - most importantly - who is the murderer? Possibly there's more behind it than it seems at first. To make matters worse, there's a storm coming up that is about to destroy the crime scene. You've got only one hour to solve the case and seek shelter. The clock is ticking!

    Our opinion:

    By Snow & Saol

Crime runners has the reputation of being one of the best brands in Vienna.  We played the congressman and enjoyed the experience. The hall was logical, diverse and quite nice, without being overly difficult. Everything to please us. So we are happy to come back for a second adventure.

This time we are going to embark on an investigation.

We arrive in front of the sign which proudly displays its themes on the façade and rings the bell. 2 smiling ladies receive us, despite our slight lead, but this lead makes us cross paths with a team that came out early as well. The result is a general hubbub. It's true that the space is small enough for too many groups. And as we do a part of the introduction brief and the end photo.

After a while we find ourselves alone and it's a film session! The brief is made through 2 videos that I really like because it puts you in the bath, explains the context and this mission more precisely.

Following our first investigation that led us to prison (the Operator got us out thanks to his connections) he wants us to go and clear up a murder that took place in a small alley. It's related to a pharmaceutical company and of course it's secret. However, we only have an hour before a terrible storm arrives and wipes out all the evidence.

We are very motivated when we arrive in the alley.

The atmosphere there is really nice. There is a real street look that is cool and quite realistic. The light and sound effects that make you believe the storm is coming, even startled us. We're digging around. We find clues that I admit are a bit strange as to the logic of their presence. In any case we combine and start to go around in circles. There is one thing that particularly worries us. We had the impression that we had been on it for at least 20 minutes, but in fact it seems that we only spent 5 minutes on it. In any case, we are making progress thanks to help from the DOJ. The means of communication chosen here is the walkie-talkie which can make sense here.

When we move forward we are however a little disappointed.  The decoration becomes much, much too refined. We can immediately identify where the various enigmas and manipulations are. Unfortunately there is almost no decoration and the location of the riddles is very visible. There is nothing here that is not useful. The puzzles and manipulations are very clearly arranged, because they are very linear.

We appreciated that many of the puzzles require cooperation.

You should also know that you will learn a lot of new things about this investigation that we started in the first room. We will know what happened to Simon and I confess that I am very curious to find out what is hidden in chapter 3.

The end is exciting again, with the arrival of the storm making our urgency to find out what happened here real.

As soon as we get out, our GMs will ask us what information to pass on to the operator and fortunately we followed the story and were able to answer without fail.

We will have time to debrief in the room, then we go back up for a photo which will be offered to us in print. I like that.

    To sum up :

Crime runners has rooms with a story that follows in several chapters and it's very interesting to discover the story that's going on here. Our experience in this room is mixed, especially with regard to the immersion through the décor. The first part is super "beautiful" neat with interesting details, even if the presence of the clues is somewhat strange, the second part is rather what we call puzzle games, with riddles, placed in space without being integrated into the story or the place and this is really regrettable. In any case, we are curious to see what happens here in their 3rd room, even if the subject is of little interest to us (you know, one more room in a laboratory :) ).

    + We enjoyed +

    • We love an adventure that is part of a story that follows from room to room.
    • A story that makes us curious to find out more
    • Sound and light in the first half of the room
    • Different and quite original puzzles
    • An interesting gadget, but could be even more relevant

    - We didn't like -

    • A second part with puzzles that are not very or not at all immersive.
    • Puzzles that are not coherent and not integrated into the decor
    • Uneven decoration
    • A Game masters intervention that would be more coherent if it were integrated into the story
